The Harlem Renaissance is an event not many people knew about during its time, compared to other milestones such as the civil rights movement, or the civil war, but it might as well be, the Harlem Renaissance was the start of a new, “reborn” race of people ready to take on the world. Like the previous Renaissance of Europe, which caused a new beginning for European culture, the same thing would occur in Harlem. It took place in Harlem between the ends of World War I in 1920 all the way to 1929, and even the early thirties, this was a time when back artists, writers, educators, and even politicians demanded racial equality. During this period when Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, musicians, photographers, poets, and scholars. This new culture spread so much that whites were finally realizing that black artists were legitimate, and not some delusional, wannabe group of people.
